I compared the BMW 650 Dakar to The KLR in 2011 when I was looking to buy. The BMW was about the same bike in most ways except horse power. 50BMW to 37KLR. I have an 03 F650 GS that I just purchased used a month ago. It's got about 50k miles on it. So far it's been running fantastically, but I've been searching all over for any information on repairing, upgrading, maintaining, and purchasing good aftermarket parts for the bike. There doesn't seem to be much out there.

Here are 2 pictures of the new Touratech Fork Protectors, TT# 300-0145, for the 2001-present 650 GS and Dakar; they are mounted on my 2002 GSA. These provide more protection than adapting the Triumph models (that only go ca. 2" up) and should not interfer with the air flow to the radiator (and thus not void the BMW warranty).

1 answer. BMW 650 Dakar. Sudden high revs and the engine shuts down. It would appear that you probably have a fuel starvation problem, if the engine is running normally and suddenly revs up and cuts out this points to a very weak mixture then fuel starvation. I would suggest that you clean your fuel lines and tank etc.
